Warren County Community College president Will Austin to serve as grand marshal of Washington Celebrates America parade
WASHINGTON -- Dr. Will Austin, president of Warren County Community College, has been named the grand marshal of this year's annual Washington Celebrates America parade as part of a full day of activities in Washington Borough on Saturday June 27.
"Dr. Austin and the college have been very supportive of Washington Celebrates America over the past few years," said Richard Maguire, chair of the Washington Celebrates America committee. "This is our way of acknowledging those contributions."...


Bring on the World Series
After winning regionals, the Riverland baseball players are headed to Tyler Texas
The Riverland Community College baseball team won its regional tournament at Willmar over the weekend, scoring a 14-3 win in the championship game Saturday against Northland.

Next up for the Blue Devils is a trip to the junior college World Series in Tyler, Texas.

They are scheduled to leave either Wednesday or Thursday and face No. 1 Richland Community College out of Texas Saturday at 9 a.m. Riverland comes into the World Series No. 1.

“It’s a tough draw, but we like to think that Richland got a tough draw too,” said Scott Koenigs, Riverland head coach. “We’re going to go there and try to play as relaxed as we can. We’ve got to come ready to play that first game.”...


Elgin Community College nails down sectional title
There is only one reason Kyle Horvath transferred to Elgin Community College.

And he definitely didn't leave the warmth of Hill Community College in Dallas, Texas to play in Saturday's windy 56 degree Elgin weather.

Horvath wants to play in the World Series.


Saturday, he and his Spartan teammates came one step closer to the program's sixth straight NJCAA World Series appearance with a 9-5 victory over Morton in the sectional title round of the Region IV tournament.

The Spartans now travel to Freeport for the Region IV tournament next week at Highland Community College.

"This is exciting to play in my first college regional experience," said Horvath, who finished 5-for-5 with a home run, and 2 doubles. "With the wind, coach (Bill Angelo) challenged us to go to the opposite field. When our bats get going, no team can really hang with us."...
