Armed Forces Day


Alabama Celebrates National Armed Forces Day
The event will be held at the Airport beginning at 10 a.m. and ending at 2 p.m.

They are asking that members of the Armed Forces, Veteran’s and their families come out and enjoy this free celebration.

Food vendors will be there but military members and their families (who show ID) will be treated to a free lunch grilled out by Wal-mart team members.

You can also take part in a free helicopter ride given by the Army heritage Foundation.

All guests are asked to enter through the south gate (closest to Glenn Ave/ Airport Motors).

They ask that you don’t bring any pets to this event because the runways will be active...


Lee County Red Cross to celebrate Armed Forces Day Saturday
The Lee County Red Cross is sponsoring a community celebration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the Auburn-Opelika Robert G. Pitts Airport to mark Armed Forces Day.

Admission is free and there will be food vendors, inflatables, helicopter rides (provided for a fee) and some local planes and military vehicles on display.

Military members and retirees who show identification will be treated to a free lunch provided by Wal-Mart Distribution Center in Opelika...


Air Show Schedule
The public is invited to attend the annual Joint Service Open House Air Show this weekend at Andrews Air Force Base. Admission is free.

Because of security concerns and limited parking, guests cannot park at Andrews. Shuttle buses will run from FedEx Field parking lots and the Branch Avenue Metro station. Check 301-981-4600 for delays or cancellations caused by weather or other circumstances...
